Schools in New York remain open despite Omicron surge

In the United States, thousands of schools dropped back the decision to reopen and start the offline classes after the winter break.

As the cases of the new variant of the COVID-19 is increasing, the school authorities have decided to start remote learning for students.

Meanwhile, in some cities, including New York, some school authorities chose to reopen face-to-face classes despite rising COVID-19 infections.

The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, promised that besides the increasing cases of the COVID, the schools will still continue after the break. The 18% of the average COVID19 tests are positive in the nation.

A month before, the rate of COVID positive people were 3%. The increasing infection is a problematic condition which made the officials close the places where there are higher chances of getting infected to the virus, such as the offices, businesses and overcrowded shows.

The Mayor cited while visiting the school in the Bronx, “By being extremely clear, the securest place for the children in the school building.”

One of the residents, talking to the media personnel, noted only one school is closed in the city and that too because of staff shortage.

In 2022, the initial days of the new year have started with confusion because the pace of the Omicron variant is increasing gradually. According to the sources, the number of new cases of the COVID-19 has increased, count of infected people is 418,000 every day.

In the previous weeks, in New Jersey, there was an increase in the cases, after which schools decided to commence virtual classes at the starting of 2022 to ensure the safety of everyone.

In Boston, the school system have distributed 55,000 COVID tests to the children ahead of winter break. Apart from this, they are deciding to reopen the school on Tuesday.
