‘Dogs mourns when a friend dies’, reveals study

The animals share an eternally beautiful bond, and it is the most evident in the relationship that forms between people and their pets and sometimes pets along with their ally pets.

The dogs are non-judgmental animals, and they give unconditional love meaning and bring happiness to the lives of everyone. They maintain a relationship of emotional, psychological, and physical with the other dogs and the human being.

In the latest study’s findings, it is hard for the dogs to get over the death of the other dog. They usually require help from human beings.

In Italy, there was a survey held of the owners of the pet dogs, in which there were 86 percent of the dogs go through negative changes if the other dog faces death. There are behavioural changes observed in which the dog that survives does require more attention, and they tend to eat less food and do not play for several months.

According to the knowledge provided by the veterinary physiologist at the University of Milan and the lead author of the study, Dr Federica Pirrone mentioned, the dog owners can help the dogs out to move on from such kind of grieving process by spending time with them, following daily routines and staying close to them.

Most of the time, the dogs get easily attached to the other dogs, and when they die, all of them grieve for them in a similar way.

Doctor Pirrone states in an email, “The domestic dogs are a social species who have adapted to live in multispecies societies. There is much of the literature showing that they develop both dog-dog and dog-owner attachments thus, we expect the mechanisms to be similar.”

During the survey, the dog owners, the doctor, and her colleagues discovered that the dogs that included most of the dogs faced grief after the death.

She mentioned, “Domestic dogs are best described as social animals who may develop strong affiliations with members of their group. I believe that the grieving behaviour of dogs is more likely related to their ability to form an emotional bond.”
