NYC health officials calls back for indoor-mask wearing as COVID infections spikes again

The health officials in New York City have again renewed calls for the indoor mask-wearing in the region as the variant of the COVID-19 infection has been increased by 17 percent in the previous week as well as the parts of the upstate faced some issues of the most contagious BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron variant outbreaks in the country.

Currently, New York City has reported around 22,654 COVID cases in the last week, which has been increased from 19,377 in the previous week as well as it is continuing the turnaround that has started during the last month following a temporary pause in the pandemic.

Moreover, due to the slight increase in the infection, the State Health Department Friday has been issued an alert recommending mask-wearing regarding the vaccination status in all of the public indoor spaces in Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego nations.

In the previous time, New York has ended in the indoor mask mandates for public places as well as an educational institutions on February 10 and March 2.

Along with this, the state has ranked ninth among all of the individuals that are carrying COVID infection is, increasing at the fastest on a per-person basis in the previous week, according to the study of Johns Hopkins University data.

In addition, the cases of the COVID-19 infection have been decreased by around 10 percent nationally, with about 196,000 cases has been recorded, although data reporting the issues raised questions related to the scope of outbreaks in some states such as Florida, Nebraska, Arizona and Georgia.

Furthermore, in the state, the increase in the cases of individuals getting infected by COVID infection has also been complicated by the widespread use of at-home tests. Onondaga County, for example, had been the only county to include its self reported at-home test results in state data, which just skewed the region’s case totals.
