Over 100 people attended high school in NJ got rare cancer, investigation launched

In New Jersey, an investigation took place in which over 100 individuals who have attended a high school have appeared to get affected by rare cancer.

As per the sources, the cancer was diagnosed years after the students were graduated or had worked at Colonia High School in Woodbridge.

The disturbing development came into existence after one of the former students’ named Al Luciano had survived cancer and made the decision to untangle the mystery. He had formed a ‘rare’ brain tumour some 20 years before.

Moreover, the 50-year-old mentioned during an interview, “I will not rest until I have answers.”

Luciano launched the bid after his sister had passed away from the disease as well as his wife was too diagnosed with the exact same form of aggressive tumour glioblastoma. In the previous month, she died because of her health conditions.

According to the American Association of the Neurological Surgeons, glioblastoma is usually a rare condition with an incidence of 3.21 of each 100,000 individuals. Meanwhile, Luciano has so far come across 102 people who passed through the school between 1975 & 2000, and they all have had the same kind of brain cancer.

Along with this, the Woodbridge officials are now working to determine the main cause of the disease.

The Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac stated that “There could be a real problem here, and our residents deserve to know if there are any dangers.”

Meanwhile, the mayor further expressed, “We’re all concerned, and we all want to get to the bottom of this. This is definitely not normal.”

The issue became a national topic of discussion in the United States after it got viral. Currently, it is the preferable topic to be mentioned in most places.

In addition, the officials have emphasised that the authorities will be conducting the assessments across the educational institution’s 28-acre campus, such as the testing of indoor air samples for radon.

According to US Environmental Protection Agency-EPA, radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer.
