Women detained for selling kidney of 15-year-old online in Venezuela

In the South American nation, Venezuela, a woman was apprehended for selling the kidney “of a 15-year-old girl” on sale on the Internet on Saturday night, as per the sources.

The nation’s Attorney-General named, Tarek William Saab, mentioned on Social Media, “Marielys del Carmen Yedra was arrested” in the State of Portuguesa “after illegally advertising a kidney for 20,000 US dollars on an online marketplace website.”

Moreover, he attached a copy of the advert, which noted that the kidney was from “a 15-year-old girl in perfect state.”

The Attorney-General highlighted that the authorities would conduct an investigation to determine whether this was the work of a criminal network. Along with this, he did not say how the arrested woman intended to get the kidney or if it was simply a scam.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s kidney transplant programme stopped working in 2017 in a nation battered by the worst economic crisis in its history: a recession that has lasted nearly eight years now and which has caused its per capita gross domestic product to plunge to the level of Haiti’s, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

On the other hand, the Venezuelan government blames economic sanctions, mainly those imposed by the United States, for the current situation. Additionally, health-care NGOs in Venezuela say the transplant program already began showing cracks much earlier.
