The United States Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified nine monkeypox cases in about seven states as of Wednesday, according to Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

On Thursday, the CDC is investigating more cases of the virus in all over the United States as a part of a global outbreak.

The monkeypox cases have so far been reported in Massachusetts, Florida, Utah, Washington, California, Virginia as well as New York.

The majority of the cases “are within gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men,” she highlighted. The authorities of Virginia has made an announcement on Thursday that the case in its state is a women.

She said, while referring to the AIDS epidemic, “This is a community that has the strength and has demonstrated the ability to address challenges to their health by focusing on compassion and science.”

Moreover, “While some groups may have a greater chance of exposure right now, infectious diseases do not care about state or international borders. They’re not contained within social networks, and the risk of exposure is not limited to any one particular group,” she shared the information while giving a warning.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is attempting to learn more about the outbreak: According to Walensky, samples from the nine instances detected were forwarded to the agency for additional confirmatory testing and genetic study, and attempts are underway to determine how each person caught the virus.

Some of the nine patients had recently traveled internationally to locations where monkeypox epidemics are active, while others do not, she added.

The CDC has advised physicians and Americans to be on the watch for symptoms, and officials expect more cases to be diagnosed.

Furthermore, the White House senior director for health security and biodefense, Dr. Raj Panjabi, stated, “We shouldn’t be surprised to see more cases reported in the US in the upcoming days. It’s actually a sign that Americans are remaining vigilant, and health care providers and public health workers are doing their job.”
