North Carolina: Father, 5-year-old son killed in horrific crash

United States: A father and his 5-year-old son were killed in a horrific crash after a car swerved onto the wrong side of the road and smashed into their golf cart in North Carolina.

The 39-year-old Michael Marlowe, as well as his young son Bentley, were identified as the two victims in the devastating collision in North Carolina on Monday.

The cops took the driver of the car, the 23-year-old Austin Ray Harmon, into custody after believing he was impaired when he swerved into the wrong lane.

Moreover, Marlowe, of Statesville, North Carolina, was driving east in the golf cart when Harmon, who was coming west in the 2009 Honda Accord, crossed a centre line and struck the cart, as per the police.

State Trooper Jeffrey Swagger mentioned during an interview, “Golf carts are a fun recreational activity for folks to get out and go for a ride, but when that mixes with a collision with a vehicle, the end is often tragic.”

Four other travellers in the golf cart were wounded and taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Their ages were 2, 13, 16 and 26. Along with this, Michael and Bentley died at the scene, but Harmon was not injured.

Harmon faces charges of driving while impaired, two counts of felony death by vehicle, and three counts of felony serious injury by vehicle.

His bond was set at about $250,000. Marlowe was the owner of a local auto body shop as well as was described by friends at the station as generous and helpful.

In addition, a family friend, JR White, shared the station Marlowe once helped him with his car, even when he did not have the money.
