Texas woman detained after she insulted, threatned group of Indian females

United States: A video went viral of a woman from North Texas who was caught on video in a racist tirade, insulting and physically assaulting a group of other females because they were taking in Indian accents.

The social media users shared their expressions on Twitter and Reddit after the video of that lady went viral.

In a video clip was shared on Thursday, a suspect, Plano police officials, was identified as Esmeralda Upton verbally harassed four women in a parking lot about their nation of origin before throwing punches and threatening to shoot the one filming her outburst.

The authorities arrested Upton on Thursday afternoon on one charge of assault bodily injury and another of terroristic threats, as per the Plano Police Department statement. The accused is now being held on a $10,000 bond, as well as detectives are investigating the incident as a potential hate crime, the department also mentioned in the statement, noting that more charges may be forthcoming.

Along with this, in a Facebook post, alleged victim Rani Banerjee mentioned in the statement that her friends Sabori Saha, Anamika Chatterjee and Bidisha Rudra were leaving the Sixty Vines restaurant in Plano on Wednesday when Upton approached and started hurling insults.

In addition, in the clip, one of the women targeted in Upton’s tirade raised the question of why she was harassing them after Upton identified herself as a Latina. Upton fires back that things are different for her because she was born in the United States of America.

Furthermore, Upton shouted, “I am a Mexican American! I was born here! Were you born here? I’m a Mexican American, but I speak English.”
