Greensboro: One dies after crash on I-40 Eastbound at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive

United States: One person died following a Greensboro, North Carolina collision on Thursday. All lanes of I-40 Eastbound at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive were closed but reopened about 8:40 p.m., as per the Greensboro Police Department news release.

Guilford County Emergency Services says the fatal crash happened a little after 4 p.m.

The reason for the incident is still not known yet.

Moreover, there were 35,766 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States of America in 2020, in which about 38,824 deaths took place, which resulted in 11.7 deaths per 100,000 people as well as 1.34 deaths per 100 million miles travelled.

The casualty rate per 100,000 individuals ranged from 4.9 in Massachusetts to 25.4 in Mississippi.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2016 specifically, about 37,461 individuals were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, which is an average of 102 per day.

On the other hand, NHTSA noted that this data indicates that there are, on average, 99 deaths on a per-day basis because of a car accident. There are at least 7,507 individuals injured in the United States of America in car accidents every day.
