Washington: On killed, nine missing after plane crashes in Puget Sound

United States: One person was killed, and nine others remained disappeared after a float plane collided in the Puget Sound in Washington state in the United States on Sunday, according to the US Coast Guard.

The agency shared the information via Twitter, and the plane was flying from Friday Harbour, which is a well-known tourist destination in the San Juan Islands, to Renton-Washington.

Earlier, the Coast Guard had mentioned in the statement that the plane was flying to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. On Sunday, the crash reported at 3.11 pm happened in Mutiny Bay, off Whidbey Island, about 40 miles-64 kilometres northwest of Seattle.

Along with this, the coast guard stated that one body was recovered as well as nine individuals remained vanished. The Coast Guard asserted four Coast Guard vessels, a rescue helicopter & an aircraft were involved in the search operation, along with first responders from area rescue and law enforcement agencies.

The cause of the crash is still not known, as to the authorities.

According to the reports, the National Transportation Safety Board says the plane was a de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Turbine Otter. The aircraft is a single-engine, propeller plane.

In addition, the planes that have pontoons that allow them to land on water are a common sight around Puget Sound, an inlet of the Pacific Ocean.
