New Jersey reports more than 1,700 new COVID cases

United States: New Jersey noted another 1,789 confirmed covid cases on Thursday and nine confirmed deaths, while the state’s rate of transmission levels off after a dramatic decrease since the previous week.

The statewide rate of transmission was .98 on Thursday, which decreased from 1.16 the previous week.

When the transmission rate is one, that means cases have leveled off at the current numbers, while anything above 1 indicates the outbreak is expanding.

Along with this, the state’s seven-day average for confirmed COVID positive fell to 1,552, an 11 percent decrease from a week ago and an 11 percent increase from a month ago.

According to the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Burlington and Cumberland are the only two of the state’s 21 nations in the “high” risk category for COVID-19 transmission.

In addition, the CDC deems nine nations to be at “medium” risk: Atlantic Bergen, Camden, Cape May, Gloucester, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem as well as Union.

The other remaining ten nations, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex as well as Warren, are designated “low” risk.

There were about 975 patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases, which were recorded all over the state’s 71 hospitals as of Wednesday night. Of those admitted people, about 113 are in intensive care as well as about 37 are on ventilators.

The statewide positivity rate for tests conducted on Saturday, the most recent day for which data is available, was 12.48 percent.

However, the CDC considers positivity rates above 10 percent to be “high.” The statewide positivity rate is substantially lower than its peak of 40.83 percent on January 1 during the height of the Omicron variant.

The state has reported about 2.3 million total confirmed COVID-19 cases since it was declared its first known case on March 4, 2020.
