North Carolina: Police officer and five killed in shooting in Raleigh

United States: About five individuals, including an off-duty police officer, were murdered in a shooting incident on Thursday in Raleigh, the capital of the southern United States state of North Carolina.

Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin shared the information in a press conference, “This is a sad and tragic day for the city of Raleigh. Just after 5:00 pm today, multiple people were shot.”

As per Baldwin, one of them was an off-duty Raleigh police officer. The mayor stated that two other people and a police officer were injured and taken to the hospital.

Along with this, Baldwin highlighted, “We must stop this mindless violence in America.”

The shooting incident broke out at or near the Neuse River Greenway, a trail that runs through part of the city. At least about three hours later, police officials had a suspect “Contained in residence,” Baldwin outlined in the statement.

As per the Raleigh Police highlighted Lt. Jason Borne, the shooter was taken into custody at about 9:37 pm, hours after the shooting.

The suspect is a young male, as per the police officials. According to the sources, he had a long gun (a firearm designed to be operated using both hands, such as a rifle or shotgun).

The governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, said to Baldwin as well as deploying state resources to assist at the scene.
