North Carolina records shooting incident, kills five people

United States: Five people, including a police officer, were killed in a shooting that occurred in a residential neighbourhood on Thursday, according to a mayor in North Carolina.

According to Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin, many persons were shot on the Neuse River greenway trail around 5 o’clock, and the police informed her that the suspect had been “contained” at a nearby house by 8 o’clock.

Beginning in the late afternoon, several police cars and ambulances crowded the Hedingham area, and authorities stayed still for hours during what appeared to be a manhunt. By early evening, there were little details left about what had transpired.

Governor Roy Cooper tweeted just before 7 p.m. ET, “State and local cops are on the ground and trying to stop the gunman and keep people safe.”

A spokesman for WakeMed Hospital, Deb Laughery, had earlier stated that at least four patients related to the incident were receiving care there, but no other details were immediately available.

In a tweet, the Raleigh police department said it was “on the scene of an active shooting” and instructed locals to remain inside their houses.

A police official did not immediately answer a message requesting a response. For 8.30 p.m. ET, a media briefing was set.

Around 5.15 p.m. ET, Brooke Medina was on her way home when she noticed nearly two dozen uniformed and unmarked police cars speeding toward her area as she exited the freeway. She then saw ambulances travelling quickly in the opposite way, toward the nearby hospital.

Furthermore, she, as well as her husband, who was working from home with their four kids, began contacting neighbours when they became aware that a shelter-in-place order had been issued.

According to Medina, a communications vice president at a think tank, the family locked the doors, covered all of their windows with shades, and gathered in an upstairs hallway.
