United States: United States Senator Bernard “Bernie” Sanders has expressed his most profound grief at the mass shootings in Colorado Springs over the weekend and another incident at the Walmart Store in Virginia on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
The Senator of the Congressional District has urged the government to pass the common sense gun safety reform. The reform legislation seeks to prevent senseless attacks and gun violence incidents by adding further laws and regulations to gun ownership.
The United States Senator, Bernard “Bernie” Sanders, took to his Facebook account to express his demand to pass the legislation. He wrote:
Another day, another terrible mass shooting in America. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. It is long overdue for Congress to pass the common sense gun safety reform that Americans are demanding. If we can’t get 60 votes in the Senate, we must end the filibuster to protect our people.
As per media reports, the shooting ended with six people dead and six others injured. Reportedly, a longtime manager of the (Walmart) establishment opened fire on the staff and colleagues. Afterwards, he turned the weapon in his direction and died of a self-inflicted wound.
The Commonsense gun safety reforms, proposed for passing by the senator, seek to run more thorough background checks on the people seeking gun ownership. These checks will include mental health screenings etc.
Another shooting incident that occurred recently in Colorado over the weekend in the United States also caught the senator’s attention. In his social media post, Senator Sanders said about the incident:
Let’s be clear. The terrible shooting in Colorado Springs this weekend directly results from the hateful and violent rhetoric that has been allowed to grow in this country. Everyone must stand united with the LGBTQ+ community and speak out against bigotry everywhere we find it.
