Carolinas witnesses blackouts due to cold weather

United States: The Former Charlotte Observer weather writer Steve Lyttle shared the weather update on Carolinas. With nearly all businesses closed, temperatures not quite as cold, and some of the people trying to save a little energy use, maybe people will get by.

He took to his official social media account and mentioned in the statement, “For starters, the power is on (as of 8 a.m., at least). I checked a moment ago, and there don’t appear to be rolling blackouts on the Carolinas energy grid so far this morning. With nearly all businesses closed, temperatures not quite as cold, and some of us trying to save a little energy use, maybe we’ll get by.”

And temperatures are about 6-8 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday. It’s part of our slow recovery from this nasty arctic outbreak. We’ll see temperatures gradually climbing, and by the time we ring in 2023, it’ll be warmer than average again. Our temperature will climb above freezing sometime this afternoon, ending a streak of 48 or more hours below freezing. The above-average temperatures are expected to last through at least the first week of January, by the way (check out the map).
