The first J-K international education fair inaugurated by EAM Jaishankar

The External Affairs Minister of India, Jai Shankar, inaugurated the first international educational fair in Jammu and Kashmir. It was a collaborative effort between the SKUAST-Kashmir and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. According to an official statement, it was held on Tuesday, 22 February.

While acknowledging SKUSAT-Kashmir for the first International Education Fair initiative, Jaishankar quoted, “Three years ago, a process of change began in J-K to ensure that the full benefits of the development and progress that the rest of India has seen for many years are now fully available to the people, particularly the youth of J-K.” In that sense, people of J-K being in the national mainstream had been extremely important. They would also connect with the rest of India and the international mainstream by doing so.

Minister Jaishankar also quoted, “It was not only an educational event, but it had also been an important part of ensuring that a very important region of India had connected to what’s going on in the world.”

He also added that Indian Universities should also focus on inviting more international students to their campuses to join efforts for establishing India as a global study destination. In today’s era, India has completed or under-delivered on projects for making relationships so extensive, our investments are so deep, and our networking is so strong we need to see a greater flow of international students to India.

In a globalised world, it’s essential that the young people of India should be fully aware of what’s happening in the world and a better way to do that than having international students among us.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of Science and Technology, Jitender Singh, added, “The Prime Minister’s National Education Policy promised to open up career and start-up opportunities based on aptitude, skill, and flexible options for capacity building”. Jammu and Kashmir can potentially be India’s Agri Startup torchbearers because of its rich legacy of unexplored agricultural avenues, the Aroma Mission, and the Purple Revolution.
