PM Narendra Modi and Australian PM Strengthen India-Australia Cultural Connection

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Friday. During the lunch, the Australian Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell shared a touching story about one of his teachers from Grade 1, Mrs Ebert.

The teacher, her husband, and her daughter Leonie had migrated from Goa in India to Adelaide in Australia in the 1950s and started teaching at a school in Adelaide. Mrs Ebert’s daughter Leonie even became the President of the South Australian Institute of Teachers. This story underlines the rich cultural connection between India and Australia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also watched the first day of the final test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in the Narendra Modi stadium. On Saturday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the “extraordinary effort” to make his Australian delegation feel welcome in India. He said the high-level contact between the two countries has further strengthened cooperation across many sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the cultural connection between India and Australia, sharing his lunch experience with his Australian counterpart. He said that the anecdote underlines the rich cultural connection between India and Australia, and it is heartening to hear when someone refers to their teacher fondly.

The Prime Ministers were greeted with loud cheers before the start of the match as they took a lap of honour across the massive sports arena to celebrate 75 years of friendship between India and Australia. A special coin, minted to mark the occasion, was used at the toss.

The bilateral level talks between India and Australia have further strengthened cooperation across sectors like trade & investment, climate and energy, defence and security, and between the people of both countries. PM Modi and PM Anthony Albanese also look forward to hosting the Quad Leaders summit in May and returning to India in September for the G20 Leaders summit.

The visit of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to India has further solidified the cultural connection between the two countries. It has shown that both countries share a strong bond of friendship.
