Caribbean: Cruise singer Brian James share life onboard luxury Cruise ships

Brian James, a cruise singer, shares his experience living on a cruise ship. He has worked as a singer on different cruise ships and is currently residing on Odyssey of the Seas, one of the largest and most advanced cruise ships in existence.

A news company called UNILAD shared Brian’s vlog on their social media account that showcased the daily life of cruise ship workers.

Cruise Singer Brian James

The singer of “Cruise” emphasized that he is currently enjoying his life on a luxury cruise ship. He lives and works on Royal Caribbean’s top-of-the-line cruise liner, “Oddysey of the Seas.” Brian describes life on a cruise ship as a lot of fun but acknowledges that it can come with some complications.

According to Brian, the newest Ship Royal Caribbean owns is the Odyssey of the Seas, which offers a variety of activities. However, he mentioned that he could not provide a complete tour of the Ship as workers were not permitted to leave.

Brian mentioned that the new cruise ship has exciting features on its top deck. These include bumper cars, glow-in-the-dark laser tag, an arcade with classic games and Virtual Adventure Zone experiences, and a surf simulator.

Moreover, cruise ships offer a variety of entertainment and recreational options, including casinos, fitness centres, spas, cinemas, and even Broadway-style theatres. Additionally, you can enjoy swimming pools, hot tubs, lounges, libraries, gyms, and clubs on board.

Brian expressed his love for the previous Ship, the “Oasis of the Seas,” but also enjoyed the new cruise ship, the “Odyssey of the Seas.” After reaching his room boarding, he noted that the cruise workers reside on the bottom deck of the vessel in small and narrow spaces.

The rooms allotted to Cruise workers are not spacious; instead, they are very small and narrow. At times, it is challenging to accommodate necessary items, and one may have to leave some belongings to adjust to the limited space.

After reaching the bottom of the cruise, Brian showed his room which he claimed was the smallest he had ever lived in. Fortunately, the cruise singers were allowed to spend their first two weeks on the deck.

The Cruise singer Brian spent his first two weeks on the Ship exploring and wandering around. He mentioned that his favourite activity was sitting on the balcony and admiring the stunning ocean view.

The Ship’s management assigned Brian a room that included a single bed, a bathroom, an adjusting table, a sink, a small refrigerator in the corner, a bucket, a telephone, and a TV in front of the bed.

The room had limited height, as demonstrated by Brian, his head almost touching the ceiling. It may be difficult for tall individuals to adjust within the crew room comfortably.

Brian realized he had overpacked and couldn’t fit everything he brought into the room. The space under the bed was too small to put a suitcase underneath. Most of their belongings were clothing and personal items. However, the Cruise singer didn’t specify where they put everything in their vlog but suggested not to bring too much stuff when boarding a cruise ship.

The Odyssey of the Seas is a massive ship, measuring 1,138 feet (347 m) and weighing 167,704 gross tons. It has 16 decks and can accommodate up to 4,198 passengers at double occupancy, with a maximum capacity of 5,510 passengers, along with 1,663 crew members. Guests have access to 14 decks; the last two decks belong to the crew. Additionally, it has 15 restaurants, two pools, and 2,105 cabins.

In order to ensure comfortable accommodations for passengers and crew, it is essential to use the available space wisely. However, the staff often has to sacrifice their own space to provide more amenities for the onboard passengers.

Moreover, cruise ships offer a variety of entertainment and recreational options, including casinos, fitness centres, spas, cinemas, and even Broadway-style theatres. Additionally, you can enjoy swimming pools, hot tubs, lounges, libraries, gyms, and clubs on board.

Brian left the Ship to explore the private island after the room adjustment. He explained that crew members were prohibited from leaving the vessel due to COVID protocols. However, on that particular day, the crew members were granted a special opportunity to relax and enjoy the private island, which was exclusively arranged for them.

The island was named and famously known as Chill Island. It is a Tourist attraction in Bullock Harbour, The Bahamas. The private island was specially designed for cruise visits.

During the visit to this private island, guests of all ages can enjoy all the venues and activities available on Chill Island. With various experiences on offer, an individual can find the atmosphere that suits him/her best, whether it’s a relaxing day at the beach or a more energetic vibe at the swim-up bar in Oasis Lagoon.

After leaving the ship and walking for a while, reaching the island, Brian stated that the view of the island was spectacular, with white sandy beaches and blue waters.

On the island, visitors can enjoy suitable sports such as volleyball and basketball. It also consists of various restaurants, all owned by Royal Caribbean. Plenty of chairs and benches are provided for visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the beach while sipping on a chilled drink or sampling various cuisines.

The Cruise singer newly appointed on Oddessey of the Seas mentioned that the crew members working on other cruise liners are not lucky enough to enjoy the comforts of private islands as they do not have private islands like Royal Caribbean.

He explained that some crew members working on other Cruise liners were kept from leaving the ship for a long duration. That’s why they didn’t touch the ground for six to ten months. “I do not know how they do it”, said Brian.

Brian mentioned that most crew members on Cruise ships live below deck. He also outlined that he lives on the last deck, and they have no windows down there because the deck is below the water level.

He mentioned that the ship manufacturers did a clever thing. They put numerous TV screens below so the crew can observe what it’s like outside without having to go.

And if someone wants to observe what is happening outside, the individual can go upstairs to the balcony and stare out. Brian remarked that he knew there were no windows on the lower decks, but the TV screens installed felt too real.

He said, “I know it’s not quite a window, but it kinda feels like a window”. Despite loving the realistic TV screens installed on lower decks, Brian suggested they put windows instead of TV screens so the crew members could look underwater and see aquatic life.

Brian acknowledged that most crew members didn’t even get a single day off for six to ten months. Fortunately, the ship management grants a week off for singers like him to recover their voices as they sing five hours daily, managing numerous events in a single day.

At last, the Cruise singer makes his way to the helicopter deck. He reported that it was beautiful, and the crew girls were hanging out running a training exercise. They were rehearsing for a big parade that happens on the promenade. Its like pirate ships spinning, dancing swordfights and typical cruise stuff.
