Portsmouth, Dominica: Mein Schiff 3, the German Cruise ship, arrived yesterday in Portsmouth. It was a historic moment for Dominica as it was the largest Cruise Ship ever to enter Portsmouth, with 2,500 passengers on board.
Today, Mein Schiff 3 (My Ship 3) left Portsmouth Harbour and returned to Bremerhaven after a 12-day round trip to Great Britain. The ship arrived in Portsmouth harbour in the morning at 6:30 AM.
The German Cruise also earned another milestone in 2017, becoming the first Cruise Ship to enter Dominica after Hurricane. It made numerous headlines during the pandemic after 2,899 passengers travelling in this vessel were isolated after some tested positive with Covid-19 virus.
The vessel received a water salute from Portsmouth Harbour during its departure. Two fire firefighting boats sprayed water in front of the gigantic cruise while it was leaving after a historic arrival.
Spraying water in front of a Cruise ship is usually called a water salute. Sometimes, coloured fluids were used according to the occasion or to match the vessel’s colour.
The German cruise ship Mein Schiff, also known as “My Ship 3”, is owned by TUI Cruises. It was manufactured by Meyer Turku and delivered from STX Finland Turku Shipyard on May 22, 2014.
Its identical sister ships, Mein Schiff 4, Mein Schiff 5, and Mein Schiff 6, were launched in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Additionally, on July 1, 2015, it was confirmed that Mein Schiffs 1 and 2 would be delivered in 2018 and 2019, and they are in service now.
Mein Schiff 3 is the largest ship ever to enter the port, measuring 293.3 metres in length and weighing 99,536 gross tonnes. There are fifteen decks total, twelve of which are usable by passengers and three by staff. Its massive weight of 99,700 tonnes and capacity to carry 2,506 passengers on a single run.
