Roseau, Dominica: On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, Dominica welcomed the MV Disney Magic of Disney Cruise Line at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth. The ship has a capacity of 3,350 (passengers and crew). Disney Magic is a family-oriented ship with an array of activities for children’s involvement.
A number of activities were planned to welcome the ship, including a welcome ceremony, cultural performances and live performances from local bands. The 2022/2023 Cruise Season has been deemed a success, with over 244,265 visitors, an increase of 71% over the previous season.
Disney Cruise Line has made its second call to the island, following Disney Fantasy’s visit in July 2022. The cruise industry in the Dominican Republic is recovering from being severely impacted by the restriction imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cruise activity was halted for sixteen months since March 2020.
The first cruise ship to arrive in Dominica after the COVID-19 pandemic was MV Odyssey on July 27, 2021. The Seabourn Cruise Line Vessel was docked at Woodbridge Bay with approximately 135 passengers on board.
Additionally, Dominica has witnessed significant growth in the cruise industry during the 2022-2023 season. The Tourism Ministry Of Dominica announced on state-owned Radio DBS that Nature Island of the Caribbean had witnessed significant growth in the cruise industry during the 2022-2023 season, with a 32% increase in calls to 189 and a remarkable rise of 44.% in passengers.
Major cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, Carnival, TUI Cruises, and Disney Cruises are expected to make more frequent visits to Dominica in the upcoming season.
The Disney Magic cruise ship anchored yesterday at Roseau Cruise Ship Berth belongs to Disney Cruise Line, a Walt Disney Company subordinate. It has 11 public decks, 875 staterooms that can accommodate up to 2,700 passengers and a crew of around 950.
The ship’s interior is designed in the Art Deco style. Additionally, Disney Cruise Line owns four other vessels, namely Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish.
