Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten: The Sint Maarten Police informed through its social media account that from June 8 to 11, 2023, numerous road accidents were recorded on different locations of the island.
The accidents resulted in injuries and vehicle damage. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in any accident. The injured were later transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for necessary treatment.
The vehicles involved in these accidents suffered severe damage, and some are not in the condition to be repaired or used again. Between June 8 and 11, four separate car accidents, including a motorbike, occurred on different roads in Sint Maarten.
A few days ago, another accident occurred on welfare road between a green car and a scooter. The Sint Martin Police urged the residents to be aware during riding and avoid overspeeding to prevent collisions, which can result in severe injuries and damages.
Through its official Facebook account, the Police of Sint Maarten reminded all drivers to prioritize safety by avoiding overspeeding, breaking signals, and taking turns without giving indicators.
The KPSM suggested the residents remain attentive and focused while on the streets, as distractions can lead to unfortunate situations such as these accidents.
Following are the guidelines issued by Sint Maarten Police to prevent further road accidents-
• Refrain from using mobile devices while driving.
• Observe traffic rules and regulations.
• Maintain a safe and reasonable speed.
• Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
• Always wear helmets, seat belts and ensure all
• passengers are appropriately restrained
• Be mindful of pedestrians and give them the right of way when necessary.
By adhering to these guidelines and being vigilant on the roads, the Police and residents can collectively contribute to a safer community and reduce the occurrence of such incidents. The Sint Maarten Police assured that the department will remain committed to ensuring the well-being of all residents and visitors.
