Sint Maarten: Police raised concern over hazardous actions demonstrated by specific scooter riders

Philipsburg: The Sint Maarten police force has once again raised a grave concern over the hazardous actions demonstrated by specific scooter riders.

The Police stated that these individuals present a severe threat to traffic as they recklessly navigate between cars, honk their horns while passing through the middle of vehicles, engage in dangerous stunts such as hopping their scooters between vehicles, cause damage to vehicles, and swiftly flee the scene following an accident.

Through their official Facebook account, the Police of Sint Marten recognized that it is crucial to acknowledge that such behaviour is not only against the law but also puts the lives at risk of the driver and the other people on the road.

The department sincerely urged these irresponsible scooter drivers to take these warnings seriously and to stop raising threats for their own and the lives of others. It is essential to prioritize safety as well as the safety of others.

While addressing the drivers who recently demonstrated hazardous actions, the Police department expressed that Police cannot be present everywhere; they request the assistance of families and the community in addressing this ongoing issue concerning hazardous scooter riders.

On June 3, 2023, The Police Force of Sint Maarten reported another road accident that occurred due to lack of focus. During the morning, at approximately 9:00 am, the department received several reports of an accident on Zagers Gut Road.

After confirming the distress calls, the Central Dispatch immediately dispatched emergency services to reach the accident location. The KPSM has started a brief investigation into the incident to gather all relevant information and determine the sequence of events.

Preliminary information indicates that a red Toyota Corolla suddenly lost control and overturned. As a result, the driver suffered minor injuries to the face. Fortunately, no fatal injury or broken bone was found during his inspection.

The ambulance personnel provided immediate assistance, and the victim was transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center, where he received additional medical treatment.
