The Trinidad and Tobago Police Department informed through its social media account that two suspects were arrested and are currently detained for investigation at Toco Police Station after Eastern Division Gang Intelligence Unit (EDGIU) recovered an illegal pistol with a significant amount of ammunition. The ages of both suspects are estimated to be between 18 to 20 years.
It’s an American-made 1911 style 45 pistol and three rounds of 45 ACP ammunition recovered from an abandoned house on cemetery street. Crime Experts individual further investigated the region as it was anticipated that more ammunition was hidden somewhere.
The men, who are Toco residents, were apprehended in the area following an intelligence-led operation in which EDGIU police carried out several raids to seize illegal weapons and ammunition.
The police report states that on June 19, 2023, between the hours of 4 am and 11 am, EDGIU officers and members of the Eastern Division Task Force obtained more information during one of the raids that directed them to the open area where they discovered the illegal materials in a black pouch bag.
A 23-year-old male suspect was also detained following other investigations in the vicinity. PC Dabreo of the EDGIU is resuming investigations for further evidence and to catch the perpetrators involved in illegal firearms supplies.
The Trinidad Police Department also informed that sixty other marijuana trees and 30 seeds were destroyed last Saturday. The total value of these Marijuana trees was estimated at around $100,000. As per reports issued by Toco Police Station, they received the information on June 17, 2023, about the illegal cultivation of Cannabis in the district.
The officers later proceeded into a roadway of the Toco Main Road, Toco, where they observed a quantity of fully grown cannabis plants and seedlings planted in an open lot of land.
A surveillance exercise continued in the vicinity of the discovery; however, after a considerable amount of time, no one was seen. The plants and seedlings were then destroyed. An investigation is undergone to find the cultivators. The Police have initiated several missions to put an end to drug and weapons supplies throughout the island.
