CONCACAF Gold Cup: Costa Rica seals victory over Martinique (6-4)

Costa Rica defeated Martinique yesterday, advancing to second position in group C. The Los Ticos scored six goals to seal the victory. On the other side, Martinique gave a fair fight scoring four goals making yesterday’s match the highest-scoring match in this competition so far.

Unfortunately, the so far campaign didn’t go much successful for Martinique as they lost two matches out of three despite giving their best shot.

Kendall Waston, the Costa Rican defender, scored the opening goal in just 9th minute. Equalizer came 18th minute by Martiniquais defender Patrick Burner. The match was quite competitive as both teams played attacking football, trying to take the lead.

The Les Matininos launched a counter-attack and scored another goal in 78th minute. But equalizing with Costa Rica became almost impossible when Diego Compass scored another goal in 89th minute (6-3).

Fighting till last minute, Jonathan Mexique scored another goal in extra time. After final whistle, the score was 6-4. Both teams scored ten goals in total, making this match the highest scoring in CONCACAF Gold Cup 2023.
