Gold Cup: Jamaica advance to quarterfinals after defeating St Kitts and Nevis, 5-0

Yesterday, St Kitts and Nevis encountered another loss in their maiden campaign of the CONCACAF Gold Cup; Jamaica shut out St Kitts and Nevis by 5-0 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

It was a third consecutive loss for the Sugar boys, with a notable difference of 5-0. The last two matches were disappointing for St Kitts and Nevis; they lost to USA 6-0 and Trinidad and Tobago by 3-0.

The football lovers of St Kitts and Nevis still await their first goal in CONCACAF Gold Cup. Jamaica advanced to the quarterfinals with their dominating victory over Sugar Boys.

The match was played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, USA. The opening goal came during 30th minute of the game in form of own goal by the goalkeeper of St Kitts, goalie Julani Archibald. Later, Jon Russell, the Jamaican and Chelsea midfielder, scored an astonishing goal doubling the Jamaican lead.

As usual, St Kitts and Nevis’ National Football team, also known as the Sugar Boyz, was seen struggling with maintaining ball possession and passing. Collective efforts and good footwork let Jamaica have 67% overall ball possession and score four goals.

They made 500 passes in 90 minutes of the game, demonstrating good teamwork and football skills. Third goal came right after the beginning of second half. Di’Shon Bernard, the 22-year-old Manchester United’s midfielder currently on National duty, scored an incredible goal in the 49th minute.

Later, Daniel Johnson and Cory Burke scored two more goals in 72nd and 74th minute of the game, assuring their victory in their third group stage match.

So far, Jamaica has sealed three victories against Trinidad and St Kitts and one draw in CONCACAF Gold Cup group-stage matches. Jamaica has advanced to the quarterfinals, and their opponent will be announced soon.
