CWI launches Men squad ahead of first test vs India

Roseau, Dominica: Cricket West Indies board announced the Men’s squad for first test match of two match test series. The match will be played at Roseau, Dominica, at Windsor Park Stadium.

The West Indies squad is anticipated to come back strong despite the disappointment of not qualifying for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. For the first time in 48 years, the two-time World champions and 2016 T20 World Cup winners will be absent from Cricket’s biggest stage for the first time in 48 years.

The Windies are ready to take on Men in Blues on July 12, 2023, and the squad has been made public. Following are the players selected for the first test match set to be played in Dominica at Windsor Park Stadium-

KRAIGG BRATHWAITE (C)
JERMAINE BLACKWOOD (VC)
ALICK ATHANAZE
TAGENARINE CHANDERPAUL
THE CORNWALL OF PEEL
JOSHUA DA SILVA
SHANNON GABRIEL
JASON HOLDER
ALZARRI JOSEPH
KIRK MCKENZIE

Another significant change seen in West Indies is they brought legend Brian Lara to guide Windies ahead of India’s tour of the West Indies. Two test matches, three ODI’s, and four T20s will be played.

Brian Lara, the West Indies Cricket legend born in Trinidad and Tobago, still holds the record for most runs scored in a single test innings 400* and remains not out. The West Indies’ performance mentor Brian Lara believes some of the side’s players will produce the goods against India in the upcoming two-Test series.

The Indian Cricket also arrived in West Indies and met West Indies legend Garry Sobers and shared pleasantries with each other. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and coach rahul Dravid met Mr Sobbers.
