Mexico again shatters Jamaica’s dream of Winning Gold Cup

Nevada, USA: Mexico once again shatters the dream of Jamaica to win CONCACAF Gold Cup by eliminating Reggae Boyz in Semifinals. The match ended as a comfortable victory for 11-time champions (3-0).

The match was played at Allegiant Stadium, also known as stadium in Paradise, Nevada, USA. It was another heartbreak for Jamaica from Mexico. During 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final, Jamaica finished as runner-up as Mexico defeated Reggae Boyz by 3-1.

Jamaica again went to Semifinals in 2017 but couldn’t lift the trophy. The USA won that match by 2-1. Unlucky for Jamaica, they always reached the knockout stage in the tournament, putting maximum effort into winning the trophy, but still, it wasn’t enough to lift the cup.

This season, Jamaica played astonishing football in the group stage and quarterfinals but got eliminated by Mexico in Semifinals.

In Group stage matches, the reggae boyz drew with the USA in the first match, dominating Trinidad and Tobago (4-1) and St Kitts and Nevis (5-0). They defeated Guatemala (1-0) to enter the semifinals.

Mexico dominated Jamaica from the very first minute of the game. The early attack launched by Mexico was successful as Henry Martin, the Mexican striker, scored an early goal in just 2nd minute of the game, providing his team with early lead.

Mexico’s coordination and ball possession tactics again proved beneficial for them and big trouble for opponents. Mexico made 379 passes in entire game, with an accuracy of 77% compared to Jamaica. They made 307 passes with a pass accuracy of 70%.

Panama defeated the USA by 5-4 on penalties for the second semifinal. The match ended 1-1. Later, penalties were performed, and Panama sealed the spot in the final. The CONCACAF GOLD Cup 2023 final match will be played on July 17, 2023, at SoFi Stadium.
