Gold Cup quarterfinal: Jamaica advance to semifinals after defeating Guatemala

Ohio, USA: Jamaica qualifies for CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals after defeating Guatemala by 1-0. Amari’i Bell, the Jamaican defender, scored the only goal in the 51st minute. The match was played at TQL stadium in Ohio, USA.

After successfully sealing a spot in the semifinals, the celebration continues for Jamaica, where they are set to face Mexico. On Sunday, July 9, the El Tri defeated Costa Rica by 2-0.

Both will meet tomorrow to advance to the final at Sofi Stadium. Jamaica played defensive football and prevented Guatemala’s stickers from taking the ball into Jamaican net.

Guatemala has better ball possession and pass accuracy during the match than Jamaica. They have astonishing rate of 57% ball possession compared to Jamaica’s 43%.

Guatemala performed 478 passes in the entire game, looking for goal and pressuring Jamaica but failed to pass Jamaica’s defence. After Jamaica scored first goal in 51st minute, Guatemala didn’t succeed in scoring an equalizer resulting in their elimination from the tournament.

Several Jamaican fans celebrated the victory of Jamaican National team. Tomorrow, they will face Mexico in CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals.

For the first semifinal, USA will take on Panama. The defending champions defeated Canada 3-2 on penalties after the match get drawn by 2-2. Panama dominated Qatar by 4-0 at At&T stadium in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Jamaica is just one step away from the final, and Heimir Hallgrímsson, the Jamaican football coach, is keenly focused on winning the title. The semifinal game will be the biggest challenge for Reggae Boyz as they are facing the 11-time gold cup champions.

On July 13, Jamaica will face Mexico tomorrow at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, USA.
