Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas completes first trial in Finland

Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, recently embarked on its inaugural voyage after successfully completing its first sea trials in Turku, Finland, as it prepares for its highly anticipated debut in early 2024.

Standing an impressive 365 metres long and weighing a projected 250,800 tonnes, this vessel belongs to Royal Caribbean International. The ship promises an unparalleled cruise experience, with room for 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members.

Over 450 specialists tested the ship’s main engines, bow, and propellers rigorously over the course of four days of preliminary tests. The degrees of vibration and noise were also thoroughly checked.

Following these trials, the Icon of the Seas returned to the Meyer Turku shipyard and is scheduled to make its grand debut in South Florida in January 2024.

According to Royal Caribbean, the ship offers something for every type of family and adventurer, ensuring unforgettable experiences without compromise.

It boasts record-breaking thrills, relaxing spaces, a neighbourhood specifically designed for young families, over 40 dining and entertainment options, and a stunning suspended infinity pool at sea, accompanied by a multilevel terrace and whirlpools.

The 363-ton AquaDome was lowered onto a cruise ship in a process that took more than 80 hours and required the use of a specialist rig. It is the largest steel and glass structure to do so.

Guests can have a meal or a drink while enjoying the expansive ocean views from the new and transformative neighborhood’s calm daytime refuge. By night, it transforms into a bustling hotspot with bars, restaurants, and the top-tier AquaTheater, where the cruise line’s signature aqua shows are presented.
