Confident Guyana under-17 team off to Trinidad and Tobago

The Guyana under-17 team departed Guyana this morning in preparation for the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Regional Under-17 Tournament, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago (TT) from August 12 to September 1, 2023.

The multi-talented national table tennis player Jonathan Van Lange will lead the team0. Vickash Wilkinson, the Under-17 Inter-County MVP, Vice-Captain Matthew Pattaya, opener Rampersaud Ramnauth, Sanjay Algoo, Nicholas Shiopersaud, and Kevin Kisten, all of whom were standout players during the inter-county competition contested in July, are anticipated to provide him with solid support.

The team, under the direction of Quasen Nedd, a Level 2 coach for Cricket West Indies (CWI), and Neil Rudder, a member of the discipline force, left Guyana after a 12-day intensive training camp.

This unit departs Guyana confident that they will become the first Guyana squad to win the regional under-17 championship, given the ideal weather circumstances throughout their camping, which featured 2-day matches and a 50-overs practice match.

The regional under-17 tournament this year will be played in a 50-over format over two days, with the Super50 playing first. On Saturday, August 12, Guyana faces Barbados in their opening game at Gilbert Park.
