Hurricane Lee reached category 5 (first in 2023)

Hurricane Lee has been declared a category five ( first in 2023) with minimum pressure below 928 mb. This tropical cyclone is already getting out of control.

The winds have reached speeds of 160 mph (257 Kmh) as it spins over the Atlantic; it is expected to hit Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas and Bermuda over the weekend, claims Hurricane Centre.

Hurricane Lee was categorized as a Category 1 storm earlier on Thursday, but it has now intensified at an exceptional rate in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, doubling its wind speeds within the last 24 hours. According to the information issued by the hurricane centre, the hurricane is currently 700 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands.

It is expected that the maximum intensity of a hurricane over the southwestern Atlantic will be reached by this weekend, which may turn it into a dangerous one early next week. However, whether the hurricane will directly impact the US mainland is still unclear.

There is an increasing possibility that the centre of Hurricane Lee will pass north of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico this weekend and into early next week. As a result, some of these islands can experience tropical storm conditions, life-threatening surf, and rip currents over the weekend.

Yesterday, September 7, a tropical depression in the eastern Atlantic converted into Tropical Storm Margot. Currently, located just a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, Margot’s winds are blowing at 40 mph and are expected to get stronger.

The National Hurricane Center predicts that Margot will become a hurricane over the weekend. According to the forecast track, the storm will turn north over the central Atlantic early next week, but there is no serious to any region.
