Trinidad and Tobago: 5 Held by Rio Claro Cops for Various Offences

Rio Carlo, Trinidad and Tobago: Five male suspects are facing firearm and ammunition possession, marijuana trafficking and robbery with violence offences after being nabbed by officers of the Rio Claro Police Station (RCPS) this morning during crime suppression exercises.

In the first incident, at 4.45 am on September 21st, a team of RCPS police officers, led by Sgt Maharaj, as well as personnel from the Mounted and Canine Branch, executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition at the Guayaguayare Road, Rio Claro home of a 28-year-old suspect.

During the search, police allegedly found one revolver loaded with five rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and 185 grammes of cannabis. The man was immediately arrested and is expected to be charged with Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and Possession of Cannabis.

Cpl Sookwah is continuing investigations in this case. In the second incident, at 7.30 am, RCPS officers were on patrol along the Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro, when they stopped a white Nissan Almera being driven by a person of interest, a 47-year-old man from Guayaguayare Road, Rio Claro. There was also a 35-year-old male front seat passenger from Charuma Village, Biche on board.

Police subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle where they allegedly found 21 grammes of cocaine. The two suspects were arrested and are currently facing Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking charges.

PC Rampersad is leading enquiries into this case. Detectives also traced and arrested a 26-year-old man and a 35-year-old man from Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro, who were wanted as suspects in a report of Robbery with Violence that allegedly occurred on July 27th this year within the district.
