Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A double homicide charge has been brought against two men in court. In connection with the deaths of Elijah Brewster and Leon Sylvester on August 14, 2023, Martin Dedier, 33, of Carenage, and Kenniatha Glasgow, 32, of Beetham Gardens, were also charged with Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.
On Monday, September 18, 2023, the men appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court. The discussion was postponed to October 16, 2023.
Around 10:45 p.m. on August 14, 2023, Brewster, alias “Dada,” 20, and Sylvester, 39, both of Carenage, were in the area when a gang of armed men approached them and started shooting at them. The two victims were shot and murdered, but the assailants managed to flee.
On Monday, September 11, 2023, agents from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One, made two arrests in relation to the event.
W/ASP (Ag.) Bridglal, Insps. Lynch and Mongroo, Sgt. Ramsumair, and other members of HBI Region One oversaw the investigation. Insp. Grant and members of the Western Division Task Force also provided support.
Following advice from the acting director of public prosecutions, Mrs Dougdeen-Jaglal, on Sunday, September 17, 2023, Dedier and Glasgow were charged by W/Cpl (Ag.) Jules, also of HBI Region One.
The murder of Joshua Toney, which took place on August 28, 2023, has been charged against two additional men who have appeared before an Arima Magistrate.
On September 8, 2023, Dwayne O’Brian, 34, of Arima, and JORDAN CAMPBELL, 18, of Laventille, stood before the Arima First Magistrates’ Court and were charged with the offence. The discussion was postponed until October 5, 2023.
On August 27, 2023, at Building 7, Maloney Gardens, Toney, 21, of Maloney, was with a group of people when three armed assailants allegedly got out of a car and started shooting at the group. The victim was hurt during the incident, but the shooters made off with their lives.
