Trinidad and Tobago: Two Young talents, Nathaniel James & Auvray, joins Jamaican club Mount Pleasant

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The International footballer from Trinidad and Tobago, Nathaniel James and Kaïlé Auvray has recently joined Jamaican Premier club Mount Pleasant after his match-winning performance against Curacao.

The 19-year-old Trinidad-born midfielder is about to leave his previous club, ‘Club Sando’ and gave an emotional speech saying that the club will continue to acquire young talent and make them capable of performing on big stages.

As reported in the Gleaner, “Jamaica Premier League champions Mount Pleasant have signed two exciting Trinidadian teenagers, Kaïlé Auvray and Nathaniel James, ahead of the start of the new season.

Both Trinidadians are 19 years old and quite effective in their respective positions. Kaïlé Auvray, the winger, has also played for the United States U-17 and was part of the U-17 squad of French Club Lille.

On the other hand, Nathaniel James is an attacking midfielder who scored a winning goal for Trinidad and Tobago in a recent 1-0 win over Curaçao in the Concacaf Nations League at their home ground, Hasely Crawford Stadium.

He dedicated his first senior international goal to murdered La Horquetta teenager Kaylon Jacob during Concacaf Nations League A action against Curaçao at the Hasely Crawford Stadium last night.

The 18-year-old La Horquetta entrepreneur Jacob was gunned down on 22 July 2023 while delivering corn dogs and fries to a customer.

James, a La Horquetta resident, usually celebrates his goals by shaping his fingers into an “L” and “H” for his hometown. Even in the midst of his celebrations, his message to the country was more sobering last night.

Both Trinidadians James and Auvrey will join recent newcomers Marlon Allen, Romeo Guthrie, Gawain Austin from Portmore and Damari Deacon of Arnett Gardens, Oquasso Chung from Danish club Esbjerb fB, defender Troy Jules of Dominica, and Vere United defender Fitzroy Cummings. The Jamaican club already has a strong squad with solid defence and fast attackers.

Paul Christie, the General manager of club Mount Pleasant, mentioned that the duo will provide additional support from the middle and strengthen the team’s attack potential and playmaking, bringing more quality to the squad.

He said, “I believe they can help us; both are highly talented and ready to contribute to the organisation’s forward movement at the Concacaf level and beyond.

Manager Christie remarked that the club will continue looking abroad to acquire young talent and help the players develop. Hence, they move on to the next level and, at the same time, remain competitive in the local Trinidad and Tobago team.
