Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Four men who were intercepted by police during a sting operation last night are currently being interrogated by detectives attached to the North-Eastern Division (NED).
The suspects, ages 21, 22, 23 and 29, from Malick, Barataria and St James, were intercepted on board a silver Nissan Tiida along 7th Avenue, Malick, Barataria by officers of the NED Task Force.
During the interception, police allegedly found a Ruger Pistol fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of nine millimetre ammunition.
According to police reports, at 8.10 pm on October 7th, 2023, NED police officers were on mobile patrol in the Barataria district when they were alerted to suspicious men in a vehicle in the area.
Police later intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search where thy allegedly found the items on the floor to the left side rear passenger area.
The men were immediately detained. Police subsequently secured search warrants and executed them at the homes of the suspects in the NED and Western Divisions.
During one of the operations at 7th Avenue, Malick, Barataria, police allegedly found a rectangular shaped package, wrapped in green plastic wrapping containing marijuana which later amounted to 531.8 grammes in a refrigerator in a bedroom of the house.
A further search resulted in one S&B 21 9×19 ammunition on a wooden TV stand located in the said bedroom.
Another man was arrested and a firearm, ammunition and a quantity of cocaine seized during an anti- crime exercise conducted in the Western Division on Thursday 5th October,2023. During the search officers found and seized a quantity of cocaine which weighed 5.28 grams.
A further search was conducted and a magazine with six rounds of 9mm ammunition was found and seized in the bedroom. The owner of the home was arrested and is assisting police with enquiries.
The officers then proceeded to a bushy lot of land located at Gopaul Avenue, Diego Martin, in the vicinity of a river, where they found and seized a black and silver Berretta 9mm pistol equipped with a magazine. The illegal items were seized.
