Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The Trinidad and Tobago Police seized over $.5 million worth of cocaine yesterday during a well-coordinated operation involving an intelligence arm of the TTPS and officers of the Northern Division.
Over the past months, the TTPS identified a drug trafficking network based in the Northern Division, which shipped narcotics concealed amongst legitimate cargo through local courier services destined for regional and international associates.
The TTPS then gathered further intelligence and information through coordinated efforts with its regional and international law enforcement partners.
On Wednesday, October 11 2023, the team of officers intercepted a package with car parts destined for Antigua. When scanned, the officers detected certain anomalies. The officers then searched the package and found 363 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $ 501,812.
Commissioner of Police Erla Christopher commented, “This is not only another win for the TTPS, but it is a win for all of us, as each drug interception is a setback for the criminal elements. As we partner with both local, regional, and international allies, we hope to see further dismantling of these drug trafficking networks and a reduction in the crime that they generate.”
The Police reported another success on Tuesday, October 10, after capturing three perpetrators with illegal firearms, Ammunition and Cocaine Seized.
The officers seized a Tiida motor vehicle with two occupants. During the investigation, they found a nine-millimetre Luger Calibre Pistol, one magazine, 15 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition, and one pair of silver handcuffs. Both men were arrested, and the items were seized.
Another perpetrator was arrested at Greaves Street, Tunapuna, with one Pistol, 15 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and 8.5 grams of cocaine. The Trinidad and Tobago Police seized the items collected from him. Later, the 23-year-old man of St Augustine was arrested and charged.
