In the United States, a man named Dr Matthew Willson, a 31-year-old from Chertsey, Surrey, an English astrophysicist, got killed accidentally, sustaining a gunshot that had travelled from the wall and hit his head in Georgia.
A stray bullet passed through the wall as the man was on his bed. It was just a single shot on his head, according to the officials of the USA.
During the investigation, a gunshot wound was found on the victim’s head, which depicts that the bullet came straight towards his head. Last Sunday, this incident took place at around 02:00 local time (07:00 GMT). The police got a call on 911 and reached Willson’s apartment in Brookhaven, Atlanta.
The sergeant of the Brookhaven Police Department, Jake Kissel, mentioned that the incident that took place was just a random incident that was not supposed to happen. It is difficult to identify the person who did this as no suspects have been yet traced.
The stray bullet has passed through an outer wall of the house that hit Dr Willson, travelled less than 100 yards, approximately 91 m, and entered via an exterior part of the apartment, said the sergeant.
He further added, “There were two apartment complexes where this incident took place as well as the place where Willson was living. Both houses there was the only distance of patches of woods, so they back up as they were almost together.”
Dr Matthew Willson was in the United States because he was visiting his girlfriend named Katherine Shepard.
As per the information provided by Sgt Kissel, the investigators are working on the lead they have, “We have been getting details and tips from the public, and the whole team is working on this case as we are making sure to track down the person who is responsible for this incident. It was an unfortunate occurrence and was threatening.”
He said, “It is well known that it was a random action and irresponsible incident, but we are still approaching to find whether it is a homicide. ”
Dr Matthew Willson was taken to the local trauma centre, but he succumbed to the shot. The authorities mentioned they would support his family as per his death.
