US man survives after successful pig-heart transplantation

In the United States, a 57-year-old Maryland man named Dave Bennett was implanted with a pig heart in his chest due to terminal heart disease. As per the information provided by the doctors, it’s been three days since he is doing well on Monday.

United States pig-heart transplantation:

The University of the Maryland Medical Center in the US, which has performed the surgery, stated it is the first time a pig heart has been used as an organ for a human being and is performing well. It was successful because of the new gene-editing tools. However, a pig can also be used as an organ donor.

Bennett has taken the risk of transplanting the pig heart to the human body as it will pave him the way to make it to his home to Maryland duplex and his loving dog lucky.

The doctor who performed the surgery implanted the pig’s heart in a patient’s body, Dr Bartley Griffith, “The surgery has made the things clear for the doctors as the issue of lack of organs has been solved. There are not many donors available of the human organs to meet the demands of all the individuals.”

On Sunday, his son David Bennett said, “This experimental surgery was a game-changer. As the heart was working well, “This is what my dad required, and this sole need has been fulfiled.”

According to the sources, it was a nine-hour procedure. The surgeons have used a heart of a one-year-old, 240-pound pig. The man is breathing without any help from the ventilator. Along with this, the patient is still on an ECMO machine that helps the blood pump throughout the body.

The Experts have been working on this treatment of saving a person from an animal body part for decades. There are more than 100,000 people on the waiting list for organ implants, and they are suffering from terrible symptoms. Approximately 6000 people die every day while waiting.
