California: Two assistant vice-principal detained after failing to inform sex assaults on campus

In Southern California, on Wednesday, two assistant vice-principals were under arrest as some of the children claimed they were sexually assaulted on the high school campus. According to the officials, three students shared information related to the incident with the authorities.

Both the assistant vice principal was named David Yang, 38-year-old, and Natasha Harris, 37-year-old, both works in Carter High School in Rialto, California was, arrested on the school grounds.

As per the data provided by the police of Rialto, they received the information related to the assault on 16 February, which was held inside the school campus. The incident was related to a 15-year-old gild who had been sexually assaulted by a 17-year-old boy “Several times over the past three months.”

The County District Attorney’s office, San Bernardino, made a statement in which they mentioned the victim reported the issue to Yang and Harris in November 2021.

During the investigation, the detectives learned about the allegations, and they received the information that two more female students were also sexually assaulted. They discovered that the second victim has also reported the assault to Yang and Harris in September 2021, and a third victim was also noticed in a similar year in February.

Meanwhile, till 16 February, no information was provided to the police related to this case.

According to California law, school officials such as Harris and Yang need to share such information with the enforcement about child abuse or neglect and should alert them immediately.

On Wednesday, it was declared by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office that Yang and Harris had been sentenced with one felony count of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause significant bodily injury or death.

The father of the accuser has mentioned, “Maybe it was the way you were dressed, or you might be seeking attention.”
