In Florida, an 81-year-old man named Harry Smith from Port St. Lucie falls off his wheelchair in the lake, and his 9-year-old dog, a beagle mix, Sarah Jane, helps him out from drowning.
As per the information provided by the sources, by taking care of routine, the man used to go for a walk with his dog near the lake across the road from his apartment almost twice a day, on his electric chair.
Before the incident took place, the man was struggling with his wheelchair as the left wheel got some loose wet grass (mulch) on it, he tried to remove all of the dirt, but his chair lost traction, Smith went towards the bank, the chair flipped off and went into the lake.
Afterwards, the dog found out Smith was struggling, the dog started barking loudly, and the owner tried to keep his head above the water. Two of the neighbors heard Sarah’s constant barking and rushed over to check the matter.
Both of the neighbors were used to working across the road in the driveway, and one of them named Edward Shuling thought that the dog was barking on the alligator before he saw the head of the 81-year-old man inside in the lake.
Shuling shared the information during the interview, mentioned, “Instantly I just jumped in. It’s just a natural reaction.”
Along with this, three-man pulled Smith out of the water and helped him out. He was able to go home in good condition, but the chair was totally damaged because of the water.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department, Officer Doty, transported Smith to home with the dog.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department shared a post on Facebook and mentioned about the incident, and the post stated, “We are thankful for Mr Smith’s dog and the two bystanders that helped save his life!”
“And as the saying remains true…A man’s best friend is his dog.”
