Former Finance Minister of Afghanistan works as Uber driver in Washington to support family

The last and former Finance Minister of Afghanistan named Khalid Payenda, 40-year-old, is currently working as a Uber driver in Washington DC to support his family financially.

As per the information provided by the sources, Payenda also works as a professor at Georgetown University.

He resigned from his post as the finance minister a week before the Taliban seized Kabul after his relationship with the former Afghan President named Ashraf Ghani got worst, say officials.

Along with this, the former Finance Minister of the Ashraf Ghani government mentioned during an interview that he is grateful for the gigs that he has discovered as it helps him fulfil the needs of his family, including his wife and four children.

Moreover, the 40-year-old said, “I feel incredibly grateful for it. It means I don’t have to be desperate.”

Payenda highlighted about his earnings, he asserted, in this week, “a little over $150 for six hours’ work, not counting his commute a mediocre night.”

After the last Finance Minister of Afghanistan arrived in the United States, he met with his family. Payenda had a word with one of the passengers about his move from Kabul to Washington has been “quite an adjustment”.

However, he mentioned that he is thank full for the opportunity that he is able to support his family members, but “right now, I don’t have any place. I don’t belong here, and I don’t belong there. It’s an empty feeling.”

Payenda is currently working as an adjunct professor at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan currently faces a humanitarian as well as economic crisis.

Furthermore, Payenda said, “I saw a lot of ugliness, & we failed. I was part of the failure. It’s difficult when you look at the misery of the people, and you feel responsible.”
