NJ man detained after his 12-year-old nephew dies due to fentanyl-laced paraphernalia

A man who was reportedly producing fentanyl in his New Jersey residence faces nearly 30 counts after his 12-year-old nephew died after being exposed to fentanyl-laced paraphernalia, according to the Camden County prosecutor’s office.

As per the prosecutor’s office, Troy Nokes, 35, of Blackwood, New Jersey, was charged on March 21 with first-degree aggravated manslaughter and first-degree strict responsibility drug-induced death, as well as 25 other crimes, including six counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Along with this, the Nokes’ nephew was discovered unconscious on a school bus on January 24, just days after reportedly cleaning drug paraphernalia containing fentanyl at his uncle’s direction. Officials were told by witnesses that the toddler was not wearing gloves while handling the paraphernalia.

The 12-year-old was further taken to a local health care center where he faced death because of injuries on February 1, mentioned in the report.

Moreover, Philadelphia’s medical examiner discovered the reason for death because of the drug intoxication, mainly fentanyl.

Joanna Johnson, the co-defendant, has also been charged with tampering with proof and hindering apprehension.

The US Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Nokes and Johnson, who are now being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing.

It’s unknown whether an attorney represents Nokes or Johnson.
