Washington plans to stop majority of non-electric vehicles by 2030

In Washington, the state has made the decision to stop the majority of non-electric vehicles by 2030, as per the newly signed bill by governor Jay Inslee.

The bill stated that all of the vehicles of the model year 2039 or later that are sold, purchased, or reported in the state must be electric.

Moreover, the statement has mentioned, “On or before December 31, 2023, the interagency electric vehicle coordinating council .. shall complete a scoping plan for achieving the 2030 target.”

Along with this, the bill covers a lot of transportation problems in the state as well, as it is a part of a bigger $16.9 billion transportation package known as “Move Ahead Washington,” which the governor has described as a way to make more efficient transportation options.

However, Governor Inslee stated, “Transportation is our state’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. There is no way to talk about climate change without talking about Transportation.”

Further, he added, “This package will move us away from the transportation system our grandparents imagined and towards the transportation system our grandchildren dream of.”

On Friday, according to Governor Inslee’s statement, the transportation package is funding four new hybrid-electric ferries, thousands of electric vehicle charging stations, 25 transit electrification projects across the state, and free fares for riders 18 younger on public transportation systems.
