CDC asks people over 50-year-old to obtain second COVID-19 booster dose

North Texas, USA– The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) mentioned that people who are immunocompromised and over the age of 50 should obtain a second COVID-19 booster dose.

As per the sources, the new variant of COVID-19 Omicron BA.2 has increased to prominence in the United States of America.

An epidemiologist at Dallas University of Texas named Dr Katelyn Jetelina stated that it is a proactive step.

“The booster specifically with omicron was incredibly important. It reminded me of a debate last fall. Many scientists said there wasn’t enough evidence for boosters, but boy was we lucky when we had boosters before omicron arrived.”

According to the CDC, those who received a booster were considerably less likely to be hospitalised or die than those who had not been vaccinated. People at risk for COVID-19 problems, such as the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, can now receive a second booster four months after the first.

Along with this, Jetelina said in a statement that “We don’t know what the future holds. I think that we prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and we have to see where this goes.”

Dr Robert Gottlieb of Baylor Scott & White Health in Dallas, who works on COVID-19 therapeutic therapies, believes that virus defence will become more simplified over time.

He expressed, “At some point, we’ll be savvy enough to predict which are the major changes that can all be covered in a single vaccine, rather than having a potpourri of vaccines.”

Like oral antiviral medications, other medicines are also expected to become more widely available and accessible, as per Gottlieb.

Meanwhile, Gottlieb claimed, “Imagine, a patient could fill a prescription and travel with it domestically or aboard, and if they were to test positive, they could start the medicine. I think that would be a great advance.”
