Texas: Body of National Guard member rescuing migrants from drowning found

United States: In Texas, the body of a National Guard member who went missing while attempting to rescue migrants from drowning while crossing into the USA from Mexico was found on Monday, April 25.

According to the Texas Military Department, Texas Army National Guard Specialist Bishop E. Evans, 22, went disappeared near the Eagle Pass Friday while attempting to rescue two of the migrants who “appeared to be drowning while crossing the river from Mexico into the U.S.”

Multiple sources initially confirmed that the body of Evans had been discovered as well as recovered in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Monday morning. Moreover, Rep. Tony Gonzales’ office also mentioned that the Republican congressman had received the information from Border Patrol that Evans’ body was discovered on Monday morning.

Along with this, Gonzales mentioned in the statement at the time of the interview, “This morning SPC Evans’ body was found and identified by local authorities. This young trooper made the ultimate sacrifice in protecting & serving our nation. He will never be forgotten.”

The Texas Military Department released a statement made that confirmation that Evans, assigned to Operation Lone Star, “has been found deceased following an exhaustive interagency search.”

In Addition, Maj. Gen. Tom Suelzer, Adjutant General for Texas, highlighted, “We are devastated by the loss of a member of our Guard family. We recognize the selflessness of this heroic troop who put his life above others in service to our state & national security. The Texas Military Department sends our deepest condolences to the family. Our thoughts & prayers are with them during this difficult time.”

The Governor of Texas named, Greg Abbott, a Republican, stated that he was “heartbroken” after learning of Evans’ passing.

Abbott asserted on the Twitter account, “Our National Guard soldiers risk their lives every day to serve and protect others, and we are eternally grateful for the way SPC Evans heroically served his state and country. I ask that Texans join Cecilia and me in praying for the family and friends of SPC Evans as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.”
