United States:Â Family members are pushing for charges to be brought against the police officers involved in this summer’s deadly shooting of a Colorado man who had dialled 911 for assistance after getting stranded in his SUV.
According to the sheriff’s office and the family’s attorneys, Christian Glass, 22, of Boulder, was shot early on June 11 in Silver Plume by a Clear Creek County sheriff’s office deputy.
According to body camera footage and an autopsy report released by the family’s lawyer, he looked to be clutching a knife when he was shot five times after standing his ground in his Honda Pilot for close to 70 minutes.
Attorneys for his family claimed that police “escalated and aggressively began force,” which resulted in his death.
The Denver-based Rathod/Mohamedbhai legal office stated in a statement on Tuesday that “the act of just dialling 911 for assistance cannot constitute a death sentence.”
This week, after their son was slain, Glass’s parents, who are from New Zealand and the UK, made their first public statements.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Simon Glass informed reporters that the man had been “trapped on a little pile of pebbles on the side of the road and contacted 911 for help.” He was quite concerned, and it was dark. He had faith in the cops to assist him. They instead assaulted him and murdered him.
Rick Albers, the sheriff of Clear Creek County, did not reply to inquiries for comment on Wednesday, and the undersheriff was not reachable by phone.
An unedited body camera footage from the shooting, an edited body camera video, an autopsy report, and public comments from the agencies involved in the event were all handed to the sources on Wednesday by the attorneys representing the Glass family.
Deputies were informed of a request for “motorist assistance” at 11:21 p.m. on June 10, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office released on June 11.
