Indiana: One dead, significant infrastructure damage after extreme weather conditions, flash floods

Indiana, United States: This weekend’s extreme weather and flash floods in the Midwest and South resulted in at least one fatality and significant infrastructure damage.

The week-long downpours were predicted to continue heading toward the northeast.

In southeast Indiana, a flash flood that also caused extensive property damage and washed away multiple roadways claimed one lady’s life. The 9 inches of rain dropped in Jefferson County on Saturday damaged the infrastructure.

Northwest Georgia: After two days of thunderstorms and torrential rain, the governor of Chattooga and Floyd counties announced a state of emergency on Sunday.

Northeast Alabama: In the town of Lyerly, where a total of 12 inches of rain fell, the National Weather Service declared a flash flood emergency close to the northeast boundary.

Along with this, in Ohio, the weather service has issued a flash flood watch for north and central Ohio sections through Monday evening due to the heavy rains that have been falling there.

According to the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency, a lady was discovered dead in rural southeast Indiana after severe floods and rain destroyed her home in the village of Manville. No more injuries were recorded, and the female’s identity was not immediately disclosed.

According to the service, more than 20 structures were damaged, along with the destruction of two dwellings.

Many automobiles and uprooted trees were found to have been washed away by rapidly rising waves. Officials from Jefferson County claim that at least two damaged bridges have been permanently blocked, and another bridge has been closed for repairs by the state transportation department.

A state of emergency was declared after Sunday’s torrential rain, and thunderstorms swamped highways and houses in northwest Georgia, which had received more than 10 inches of rain in only 12 hours.

Furthermore, Governor Brian Kemp announced a state of emergency for Chattooga and Floyd counties in Georgia. The National Weather Service warned locals to shelter on higher ground and avoid going through floodwaters. According to the sources, both counties were under a flash flood watch into Monday night.
