Nevada man accused of stabbing 19 year old to death in 1972

United States: A 77-year-old Nevada man was taken into custody on Wednesday after Hawaiian officials accused him of fatally stabbing a lady in her Honolulu condominium fifty years prior, according to court and prison records.

According to an arrest warrant issued Monday by a district court judge, Tudor Chirila Jr. was charged with second-degree murder in the death of the 19-year-old Nancy Anderson, on January 7, 1972.

According to prison and court documents, Chirila, of Reno, was detained at the Washoe County Detention Facility after surviving a suicide attempt on September 8, two days after officials took a DNA sample from him to match with genetic material from the crime site.

Investigators spent years chasing dead-end leads and speaking with suspects before identifying Chirila, a former graduate assistant at the University of Hawaii.

Two knife salespeople who went to Anderson’s residence the day she was discovered dead were among them, according to the affidavit of a Honolulu investigator that was attached to the search request.

According to the sources, Anderson was a McDonald’s employee who graduated from a Michigan high school two years before her passing.

She was characterised as joyful and pleasant by friends and coworkers who were questioned by authorities following her death.

According to the complaint, Anderson’s roommate discovered her dead on the afternoon of January 7, only minutes after she woke up from a nap. The roommate found Anderson on the floor, covered in blood.

According to the affidavit, a medical examiner later discovered Anderson had 63 stab wounds.

The knife salespeople were questioned by detectives when they visited Anderson’s residence on January 7 after seeing her that day in Waikiki. According to the affidavit, when Anderson and her roommate rejected the sales presentation and their products, the salesman gave Anderson a pie cutter as a gift.
