Georgia: Father of 8-month-old died in a hot car, charged with second-degree murder, says police

United States: Officials from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said on Wednesday, May 4, that the father of an 8-month-old child who died after being left in a hot car had been charged with second-degree murder.

Davied Japez McCorry Whatley, 20, was arrested early Wednesday in connection with the child’s death, as per the authorities.

Moreover, on Tuesday afternoon, Whatley is suspected of leaving his daughter inside his vehicle for many hours. Whatley appeared at the police department just after 2 p.m. to receive his handgun from the property custodian when detectives discovered he had an outstanding probation charge, according to Snellville Police. He was apprehended and sent to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

Authorities say he bonded out on the unrelated felony Tuesday evening.

Along with this, investigators said Whatley never told them a youngster was in the vehicle.

According to investigators, the whole contact with Whatley was captured on a body camera.

During the press conference, police stated that following his detention, the suspect phoned the child’s grandmother, who then went to the car and discovered the youngster inside. 

Meanwhile, the grandmother took the child to an area emergency room, where she was pronounced deceased. 

According to the authorities, Whatley is expected to be transported to the Gwinnett County jail on the second-degree murder charge Wednesday afternoon. 

Furthermore, Snellville is a suburb of Atlanta. As per the National Weather Service, the maximum temperature in the region on Tuesday was 86 degrees.
