Texas teen detained for strangling newborns and assaulting staff members

United States: An 18-year-old man in Texas was apprehended after allegedly storming through a hospital nursery and started strangling newborns and assaulting staff members.

As per the reports, Marcus Dewayne McCowan Jr was charged on Monday with several felonies, such as two counts of attempted first-degree capital murder.

The Odessa Police Department detailed the incident. According to the department, officers responded to an incident at the Odessa Regional Medical Centre in Texas after staff at the health care centre reported that a man had “forced his way into the nursery and began assaulting patients and staff.”

According to the information, I obtained an affidavit describing the alleged hospital events. Along with this, as per the affidavit, Mr McCowan was at the hospital because his girlfriend was in labour. The people witnessing the incident mentioned in the affidavit that he acted “odd and unreasonable” before the attack.

The man then allegedly started staring at a mother and her newborn as well as later shoved nurses to the ground and tried to gain access to a nursery, which was locked.

In addition, when that did not work, he allegedly grabbed the mother’s newborn as well as escaped into a lactation room, where he reportedly started strangling the baby.

Nurses shared the information that the face of the baby turned blue in colour and outlined that police officials followed the man into the lactation room.

A therapist highlighted the struggle as well as saw McCown eventually force his way into the nursery. He allegedly started strangling another baby in the nursery while the therapist tried to calm him down.

As per the therapist, Mr McCowan lifted the baby and said ‘die,’ making a move as though he was going to throw it to the ground. The therapist intervened as well as attempted to bring Mr McCowan to the ground while supporting the baby’s head to prevent further injury.
